12/3/2012 - The ARRL Northwestern Division Scholarship Fund

Endowed through the generosity of the members of the ARRL Northwestern Division, this scholarship is intended to provide funding for the educational expenses of a young Amateur Radio operator who is pursuing a degree at an institution of higher learning in specific curricula.
Requirements:
1. The ARRL Northwestern Division Scholarship Fund will be administered by the ARRL Foundation.

2. Preference will be given to applicants residing in the ARRL Northwestern Division (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon or Washington). If no qualified applicant is identified, the available funds will carry over to the next year.

3. Preference will be given to applicants pursuing studies in engineering, medicine, science and business.

4. Preference will be given to applicants with an academic grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the academic year immediately prior to application (high school or college).

5. Applicants must be an active Amateur Radio operator and submit a letter of recommendation from an officer of an ARRL affiliated club attesting to the applicant’s regular activity in emergency communications, contesting, DXing or other activities which serve to exhibit the applicant’s on-going active participation in Amateur Radio.

6. The applicant must be licensed as a General Class or higher Amateur Radio operator.

7. The ARRL Foundation Scholarship Committee submits its nomination to the ARRL Foundation Board of Directors for approval by a majority vote.

8. The ARRL Northwestern Division Scholarship will be funded for 2013 with a contribution of $1,000. Additional contributions will fund scholarships in subsequent years. Contributions to fund the scholarship should be made by December 31 of each year.

9. Scholarships are for the exclusive use of the winner to be applied to tuition, books, fees and other educational expenses.

10. The scholarship award will be $1000 annually with the first scholarship awarded in 2013. The scholarship will be awarded in any year where the December 31st balance is sufficient to fund it.

11. The ARRL Foundation Board of Directors will disperse the scholarship funds to the winner’s college of choice.

12. The ARRL Foundation assesses each scholarship fund for annual administrative expenses. The assessment will average less than 1% of the fund’s balance as of December 31 of the preceding year.

13. The ARRL Northwestern Division Scholarship Fund is in no way designed to supplement or inhibit other scholarship funds that might be currently in place or created in the future.
